Privacy
The short version: this site counts its readers with software we run ourselves. Nothing about you is sold, shared, or sent to an ad network, because none of those things exist here.
What we measure
musterr.dev uses Matomo, an open-source analytics tool, self-hosted on our own server. For each visit it records:
- the pages you view and the site that referred you here,
- your browser and device type,
- your approximate location (city level), derived from an anonymized IP address. The last two octets are discarded before anything is stored, so
203.0.113.7is kept only as203.0.0.0. We cannot identify you from it.
Cookies
Matomo sets a first-party cookie (_pk_id, plus a short-lived session cookie) so that a returning browser is counted once instead of twice. It works only on this domain, is never used for advertising, and is not shared with anyone. There is no third-party ad tech, no fingerprinting service, and no social widget on this site.
Interaction heatmaps
To see which parts of a page actually get used, the site also sends small anonymous interaction beacons (where on the page clicks land and how far down you scroll, both as percentages) to analogelk.com, infrastructure we run ourselves. A beacon carries only coordinates, the page path, and a coarse device class (mobile or desktop). It records no text, no identifiers, sets no cookies, and cannot be tied to you. Like the analytics above, these beacons honor Global Privacy Control: if your browser sends it, none are ever sent.
What we honor and discard
- We respect both browser privacy signals. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control (
Sec-GPC), neither the analytics script nor the interaction beacon ever runs. If it sends the older Do Not Track signal, the server discards the visit. Either way, you are not tracked at all. - Raw visit logs are deleted after 13 months; only aggregate statistics (counts, not visits) are kept beyond that.
- All analytics data stays on infrastructure we operate. No third party receives it.
The demo portal
If you log into the read-only demo (demo@muster.dev), the app stores a session token in your browser. That token exists solely so the login works; it is not used for tracking.
